Being a Legal Resident allow us to live, travel, petition relatives and work in the US. BUT.....
.....Becoming a Citizen / Naturalized allows more benefits.
LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT (LPR) US CITIZEN
1. A petition waiting time for spouse and children could be 5-7 years. 1 year waiting only
2. NO petitions for parents, brothers/sisters allowed. Petitions Allowed
3. LPR children need to wait until the age of 18 to Naturalize. LPR children naturalize
with US Citizen parent
4. Traveling is allowed for periods of NO more than 6 months. NO Limit
5. Retirement and Disability Benefits may be restricted. NO Restrictions
6. Public Assistance Benefits may be restricted or unavailable. NO Restrictions
CITIZENSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
1. Be a Legal Permanent Resident for 5 Years or 3 if you are married to a US Citizen.
2. Knowledge of Basic English.
3. A list of trips if you have traveled outside the US since you received your Resident Card.
4. $680.00 fee for the Citizenship and Immigration Service.
(Waivers available if your family has the link or medical card).
5. 2 Color photographs passport style.
6. Certified Court Disposition if you were in a court process.
7. Driving Record if you had traffic tickets.
