Standing Together: A Message from HACES Leadership

Support Our Community

DONATE

HACES Founder and CEO Maria Elena Jonas, and HACES Board Chair, Ivan Hernandez-Arizmendi, address a growing concern that directly impacts our community: the deployment of federal ICE agents in Lake County under a directive from the Trump Administration.

“Today, we come together in unity to talk about an issue that deeply affects our community,” says Hernandez-Arizmendi. "We know that Trump's decision to deploy ICE agents in Lake County has instilled fear in our families and neighbors. Our message is clear. We are united, we are strong, and we will not be intimidated."

For over 20 years, HACES has stood strong as a trusted advocate and resource for immigrant families in Lake County and beyond. Under the leadership of Maria Elena Jonas, HACES has delivered high-quality immigration services and fought tirelessly to ensure every individual has access to the support and resources they deserve.

“Today, more than ever, we reaffirm our commitment to this mission,” says Jonas in the video. “We are here to support our community to inform, to guide, and to walk together toward equal opportunity and progress for all.”

In this time of fear and division, HACES stands resilient alongside our community members. We invite you to watch the full video message.

Together, we remain strong - and together, we move forward.

Celebrating New Citizens: A Day of Unity, Pride and Empowerment

On Saturday, September 27, HACES proudly hosted its Third Annual Citizenship Celebration at the Eleanor Murkey Community Center at the College of Lake County.

This past year, HACES proudly assisted 306 community members in becoming U.S. citizens. Citizenship is more than a legal process—it is a powerful commitment to civic life, a doorway to new opportunities, and the chance to fully participate in shaping the future of our communities. For many, this milestone represents years of dedication, resilience, and the fulfillment of feeling truly at home in this country. It is an unforgettable moment.

Special thanks to our local leaders and elected officials for their support and uplifting messages.
