ABC 7 Chicago interviews Lesley Tenorio
As part of its ongoing reporting efforts to measure, track, and empower Chicagoland communities to create more equitable cities, ABC 7 Chicago interviewed Lesley Tenorio, HACES’ Immigrant Family Resource Program (IFRP) Coordinator, about the lack of health insurance in the Latinx community, and the cultural barriers they face when trying to access health care.
Our IFRP program serves low income, low literacy immigrants/refugees who primarily reside in Waukegan. The program provides:
- Case mgmt. services: we help immigrants/refugees address barriers preventing them from applying for public benefits or other human services.
- Outreach and community education: ensure that the community is well informed on state and federal policies on public benefits eligibility based on immigration status.
- Covid-19 Relief Assistance: provide case management, disburse relief funds to families and connect them with community services to alleviate burdens they face due to the pandemic.
