"The family was forced to move and live with family members after Mr. Rodriguez lost his job because the restaurant he worked at closed."
In March 2020 many of our clients’ and their families’ lives were changed forever. During that time, it was critical for us to find ways to evolve and continue providing services. Our programs were conducted virtually and HACES used technology to communicate while providing safe, in-person contact on a limited basis. Furthermore, throughout the pandemic, HACES secured and distributed funds to those most in need.
One of the families that HACES was able to help was the Rodriguez family. The Rodriguez, a family of five, began having financial and health issues almost immediately after the start of the pandemic. The family was forced to move and live with family members after Mr. Rodriguez lost his job because the restaurant he worked at closed. Shortly after, he tested positive for COVID which forced the entire family to quarantine for almost a month. Due to residual health problems caused by COVID, the family has incurred substantial medical expenses. To make matters worse, both parents haven’t worked in over a year. Unfortunately, the family’s financial responsibilities have fallen on the shoulders of their teenage children, one of whom is still in high school.
After meeting with Jennifer Ayala, HACES’ COVID-19 Case Manager, the family qualified for cash assistance. When the family was told that they would receive a $500 debit card, they were excited and grateful. Staff was also able to make referrals to other agencies that will provide resources that can help the family get back on their feet.
HACES’ case managers work closely with the families that seek our help to ensure they receive the assistance they need.
